You've got to love a country where just one specific day is chosen to express feelings of gratitude...
No Thanx Given came about as a theme that is intended to create a platform for the people to speak up and speak out about the progress and desires of indigenous people everywhere...The Indigenous people of this country were driven out of their homes by Europeans...Since 1970, the United American Indians of New England (UAINE) have observed a National Day of Mourning on the fourth Thursday of November...This 'holiday' holds more truth than any of the commercial, socially constructed holidays (Columbus Day, anyone?) observed in the U.S. today...As the UAINE website points out, the only true thing about the romanticized myth of Thanksgiving is that the European settlers would not have survived were it not for the Wampanoag...
This is the same sort of national amnesia that lets us buy Uncle Ben's rice bowls and Aunt Jemima's maple syrup... It's convenient and painless for those with privilege and insulting and damaging to those without...
Now, I'm not saying we should do away with the general idea of Thanksgiving!!!!
Of course we should be thankful EVERYDAY...
Just don't forget to thank and pay homage to those that don't get thanked enough...

John Forte Commutated by Bush
 Rapper-producer, John Forte is one of sixteen people who have received a reduced sentence or a pardon from US President George Bush.
Forte was sentenced to 14 years in prison after
being convicted of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.
Forte released two solo albums, Poly Sci and I, John as well as produced and appeared on The Fugee's multi-platinum and Grammy-winning 1996 album, The Score.
Forte will be released from jail on December 22nd and will face five years of supervised probation.
Senator Orrin Hatch, singer Carly Simon and her son James, were among the people who advocated for Forte's release.
"Now is the perfect opportunity for John to be given the chance to provide positive benefits to society through his considerable musical talents," Hatch wrote to Bush in a January 2007 letter.
Forte was one of two inmates who received reduced sentences. Bush pardoned 14 others.
